In rural Ethiopia, healthcare is so limited that only 3
percent of births are attended by a health professional. Among the poorest in
the community, it’s only 1 percent. This
puts pregnant women at tremendous risk. Every year, 25,000 women and
girls die of pregnancy complications – many simply because they can’t get to a
hospital in time.
With your help, we can change this reality.
Once complete, the Shinshicho Mother & Child Health
Center will offer acute, quality care and advanced medical treatment, including
diagnostic and surgical services, for a region of 250,000 people. It will have
72 beds available for patients requiring extended care. And it will prevent
illness and increase survival among women and children – a major step forward
in a region where 1 in 10 children die before the age of 5, most from
preventable or treatable illnesses.
We are now in the last two phases of the construction
process. Our most urgent need for this year is $165,000 to complete this phase
and keep the construction project on target.
Your gift today can help mothers survive delivery, fathers
overcome illness and children grow up healthy and strong.
